Catalogue Changelog

Release history

2.1.0 October 3, 2026

Added

  • Kobo deletion confirmation. Catalogue now asks for confirmation before removing books from a connected Kobo.

Fixed

  • Kobo annotation syncing. Highlights, bookmarks, and notes created in Catalogue can now be written back to your Kobo. More precise position matching also prevents annotations from being duplicated or lost during syncing.
  • Toolbar and list appearance on macOS Tahoe. The toolbar no longer becomes transparent in certain window states, and grouped lists now have consistent spacing.

2.0.0 September 19, 2026

Added

  • New library format. Catalogue now handles interrupted changes and duplicate files more safely, helping protect your books and reading progress. When you open an older library, Catalogue guides you through the update and keeps the original copy.

Fixed

  • Duplicate files in one import. Import All could add the same book twice when a batch contained identical files. Catalogue now spots copies within the batch, too.
  • Missing details after import. Newly imported PDFs and EPUBs now show their file type, size, and cover without making you reopen the library.
  • More accurate library previews. Quick Look no longer lists books in the Trash or repeats books because of duplicate stored files.
  • Safer Kobo removal. Deleting books from a Kobo now checks that their originals are safely in the library's Trash before removing them from the device.
  • Reading progress and last-read dates. Catalogue now records reading in its own reader promptly and shows the correct last-read time when progress comes back from a Kobo.

Improved

  • A clearer Kobo view. Separate Copy to Kobo and Copy to Library lists show what is missing or already up to date. You can select a batch, follow its progress, and choose which details to keep when a book differs on each side.
  • Search that reaches further. Catalogue now finds matches in book details, collections, ISBNs, highlights, and notes, including items on a connected Kobo.
  • Faster browsing in big libraries. Covers load as needed, and choosing books for a collection is much quicker when the list is long.

Removed

  • Manual Kobo backup controls. The device view no longer offers manual backup and restore. Catalogue still makes a safety backup before it changes a Kobo's library.

1.3.1 August 9, 2026

Added

  • Multi-library support. You can now open multiple libraries simultaneously in separate windows, allowing to manage and organise distinct libraries side by side.
  • Direct file opening from Finder. Double-clicking any .cataloguelibrary file directly in Finder now opens it straight into Catalogue, and recent libraries can easily be reopened from the File menu.
  • Send feedback directly from the Help menu or when an error pops up. You can review the full report before submitting, and Catalogue automatically sanitises personal details like file paths to protect your privacy.

Fixed

  • Fixed an issue where importing, deleting, or deduplicating books could cause Catalogue to crash if you were actively inspecting or editing an item.

1.2.0 July 19, 2026

Added

  • Duplicate detection when importing. Catalogue now flags files that look like copies of books you already own: exact duplicates outright, and a gentler heads-up when a file just shares a title and author. Exact duplicates are left out of Import All, so a big batch won't quietly add things you already have.
  • Progress and cancellation for imports. Large drops now show how far along they are and can be stopped part-way.

Improved

  • A refreshed library icon.

1.1.0 July 14, 2026

Added

  • Title and author detection when importing. Filenames are read against several naming conventions rather than assuming one, embedded PDF and EPUB metadata are validated as a potential candidate, and the text on the cover is read as a last resort when neither produces a usable title.
  • Progress and cancellation for imports. Large drops now show how far along they are and can be stopped part-way.

Fixed

  • Editors, illustrators, and translators credited in an EPUB were treated as authors. Only creators marked as authors are used, where the book declares roles.

Improved

  • Large imports are substantially faster and consume less memory.
  • The Quick Look preview of a library shows a browsable list of collections with counts, in place of the static collage of recent covers.
